So apparently, while some Aussie is playing with a prototype in Brisbane, Australia, the rest of us, (the patient 43 of us who are on the waiting list) can expect our cameras in May of 2010. Nick’s first impressions seemed quite mundane. He touted the light weight and small package, but nothing yet of how it handles in the field. He posted footage on vimeo.

The footage isn’t game changing, although I like this frame.

What I want to see are some real life tests of it’s 11 stop dynamic range.

Ikonoskop also reported that it is going public… in Sweden. I guess I’ll wait for it to hit Nasdaq.

Waiting is getting harder

Ikonoskop announced a delay in their delivery schedule, but they have confirmed that the prototype camera is working up to 15fps on their proprietary cards, so they are making progress. I’m guessing delivery at the end of summer at the earliest.

Here’s their email:

“Dear A-cam dII deposit holder,

Thank you for your patience and confidence.

The last few days it has become obvious that the A-cam dII still suffer from technical malfunctions. Issues causing this delay are being addressed and will be solved.

Since we can not tell how long this will take, we are of course offering to reimburse all deposit holders. If you want your deposit back please let us know your appropriate banking details by replying to this e-mail.

In a couple of days we will release further information about A-cam dII and its development.

Waiting is hard

Ikonoskop have not set a date for the release of the camera, but rumor on the street is April… or maybe May. Meanwhile, I’ve been getting ready for massive data storage for those 80gb cartridges. Drives are coming down to $90 per Terabyte. Now I just need an enclosure system.

Down payment on A – Cam DII confirmed.

I received my deposit confirmation from Ikonoskop today, so I’m on the waiting list. They weren’t very specific about when I might receive the camera… but it at least feels good to be part of the Ikonoskop family.
